January in Sioux Falls only means one thing...Burger Battle! This year's Downtown Sioux Falls Burger Battle is pretty intense. A record 37 savory burgers from local Sioux Falls restaurants are looking for your stomachs and votes.

When it comes to burgers, there definitely is one for everyone, especially in Sioux Falls! Sponsored by First Western Bank & Trust, the 11th annual Downtown Sioux Falls Burger Battle features burgers residents can sink their teeth into. It's hard to decide which of the 37 burgers to try. But someone has to do it! I don't think I can try all 37 burgers. But I am going to do my best! I was very curious about this next burger from Wileys Bar. The popular hangout spot in Sioux Falls isn't just doing any normal burger. This burger has some Mexican flair to it.

According to a previous article from my co-worker Jeff Harkness, the Birria Smash Burger is "two Chuck Brisket Blend Smash Patties, Pepper Jack Cheese, Birria (stewed beef in chilli and spices), Seasoned Fried Corn Tortilla Chips, Pico de Gallo, Avacado Salsa, Shredded Romain Lettuce, Stacked on a Chili Toasted Brioche Bun. Served with Tortilla Chips and a side." It's basically a taco burger, which sounds pretty good to me!

This burger is not the easiest burger to hold. It falls apart fairly quickly. However, the flavors of the burger worked really well together. I appreciate this "out-of-the-box" burger from Wileys Bar. The Birria Smash Burger is different from other burgers on this year's list, especially with the idea of using Birria in the burger.

One aspect of this burger I wasn't a huge fan of was the salsa served with the chips. I know the Downtown Sioux Falls Burger Battle isn't about the sides. But the salsa was a little runny for my taste. There wasn't much flavor to it either. But it's just my opinion!
