2024 Downtown Sioux Falls Burger Battle: Woodgrain [Review]

The new year ushers in a brand-new list of contenders for the Downtown Sioux Falls Burger Battle, with a record 37 entrants in 2024.

The latest to hit my taste buds is the Smokehouse Brisket Cabernet Burger from Woodgrain Brewing Company who is teaming with Southern Perfection BBQ for this entry.

It's a great new trend this year with three different Sioux Falls breweries, who haven't been able to take part in Burger Battle in years past combining forces with local food trucks, who, without an actual physical location to serve from, were also left out of the annual competition.

This burger is billed as:

A cold-smoked 1/2 lb. patty made from a custom blend of brisket and chuck, covered with a Cabernet Sauvignon cheese sauce, topped with sharp cheddar, red onion, pickles, romaine lettuce, tomato, and house-made Southern Perfection Burger Sauce on a toasted brioche bun.

Grab some extra napkins for this one as the cheese sauce gets a bit runny and makes keeping the burger together a bit of a challenge.

But once you dig in it's all worth it.

This was the best seasoned patty I've tried so far and with the big slices of tomato,  abundance of romaine, onion, and pickles it had all of the trappings of a delicious classic cheeseburger.

Nothing flashy, just a great straightforward burger.
