Mistakes happen and the City of Sioux Falls aired on the side of caution with this year's 4th of July activities.

Late afternoon on Wednesday, July 3rd, the City of Sioux Falls cancelled all morning and afternoon 4th of July events due to the rainy forecast. But Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken now says cancelling America's birthday celebration early was not the best decision.

In a heartfelt and funny Facebook video from Mayor TenHaken and his daughter Nora, he sent his sincerest apologies to the city and more importantly...his playfully upset daughter.

Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken explains to his loyal Facebook followers and the city that they were getting reports that the forecast was not looking great. They wanted to be safe, especially after the recent heavy rainfall in the area.

We had so much candy. We were ready to do the 5K. You know, people started to drop out of the parade because they saw the forecast and they were canceling to be in the 5K. So we made the call to call the festivities off, and now God has given us a beautiful, beautiful day. So I'm sorry for that. We will make next year even better!

I think Nora's attitude shows just how everyone in Sioux Falls is feeling right now!

This is the second year in a row that Sioux Falls cancelled 4th of July events due to weather. It's a huge bummer, but at least there's still a concert at Levitt at the Falls and fireworks on 4th of July night.

Keep checking for updates about tonight's show through Levitt at the Falls' Facebook page.

We appreciate the apology, Mayor!
