One of Willie Nelson's most iconic albums went to number one on the country charts on this day in 1982. Always On My Mind is one of those records that nearly every country fan has. In fact, it was the best selling country album of the entire year. But Willie had more than country on this record. Always On My Mind has a little bit of everything. Here are a few of the reasons it remains one of the best country albums of the '80s.

Last Thing I Needed The First Thing This Morning: One of the best songs in Willie's entire catalog (And that's saying something). Years later Chris Stapleton had a big hit with this song too.

A Whiter Shade of Pale: Remaking one of the classics isn't easy. But in this song, Willie pulls it off. A Whiter Shade of Pale was one of the 60s most iconic songs. Willie does a much different version than what Procol Harum did in 1968, but Nelson's voice and soulful guitar playing make this one of the "must listen" songs on the album.

Bridge Over Troubled Water: Many consider Simon & Garfunkel's one of the greatest songs of all time. Not only does Willie put his own spin on it, but he takes it up a notch. His voice is perfectly suited for this one.

Always On My Mind: Willie wasn't the first to record this song. Artists like Brenda Lee and even Elvis took a crack at it in the '70s. But it was Willie that turned Always On My Mind into the timeless tune it is today.
