It was on this day in 1995 we lost Charlie Rich. The country music legend was traveling to Florida with his wife, after seeing their son perform with Freddy Fender in Mississippi. That night, at a motel in Hammond, Louisiana, Rich died in his sleep from a pulmonary embolism.

Here are some of the best songs from the man known as the Silver Fox.

Behind Closed Doors, 1973: The first single and title track to Rich's most successful album. This was the song that made Charlie Rich a superstar.

The Most Beautiful Girl In The World, 1973: Another classic from the Silver Fox, this song was also on the Behind Closed Doors album. The record went on to sell over four million copies in the U.S. and gave Rich success on the country and pop music charts.

Rollin' With The Flow, 1977: This song was originally released by fellow country artist T.G. Shepherd on his debut album in 1975. Two years later, Rich recorded and released the song, taking it all the way to number one on the country charts.

I'll Wake You Up When I Get Home, 1979: This one comes from the Every Which Way But Loose Soundtrack. Rich even appears as himself in the Clint Eastwood film. This was his last top ten hit. Reaching number three on the country charts in 1979.
