Happy “Gotcha Day” Honey!
According to the ASPCA, "approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats." These animals hope to find their forever home. Last year, my family made this dream come true for one special pup.
Before my sister attended the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, Katie worked at a veterinarian clinic. Every year, they received hundreds of adoptable dogs and cats. A litter of labrador puppies came into their shelter, and she couldn't resist. Katie immediately called my dad to tell him he has to look at a puppy named Honey.
Honey was extremely quiet. She laid down to rest and didn't bark the entire time my dad spent with her. My dad was locked in on taking Honey home just after being with her for an hour.
In the middle of the meeting, my sister Facetimes me with Honey. I laughed because she would always send me different pictures of dogs she was with. I didn't think anything of it. Until Katie says, "I"m calling you with this dog because she's yours. Dad is signing the papers as we speak!" I was almost in tears when I heard this news.
One year later, Honey has been the most amazing dog ever. She's so calm for being a labrador, she loves to cuddle, eat ice cream treats, and pose for pretty pictures. Honey has made my family and everyone around her so happy. 23 years of asking for a dog finally paid off! Happy "Gotcha Day" Hon Buns!
