Over 100 Days in Shelter, Sioux Falls Dog Is 'Declining Quickly'

Some of our Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota four-legged friends don't have an easy life. They spend their days behind shelter walls until someone finally notices them.

One Sioux Falls dog currently at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society is not doing the greatest at the shelter. It's causing him too much stress.

Say hello to a Labrador Retriever/Mix named Alex. He is only two-years-old and has been at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society.

Staff at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society say that after waiting over 100 days, Alex "is declining quickly. Every extra day here is taking something out of him." In an emotional Facebook post, the staff knows there's so much more to Alex beyond the surface.

You can see him trying to hold it together.
Trying to focus. Trying to be good.

And he can.

That’s what makes this so heartbreaking.

Underneath the stress is a smart dog that wants to learn.

A dog that responds to guidance.

A dog that still gets excited over toys, attention, and the people he trusts.
