‘Suffering’ South Dakota Dog Adopted & Now Thriving At New Home
It's amazing what a little love can do for animals. Thanks to the efforts of the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society, a dog's life is forever changed for the better.
Say hello to Monk. He came to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society a broken dog. In fact, officials say that "it was clear he had been suffering for a long time...."

Disclaimer: Some photos could be disturbing to some readers.

Monk was so gentle and gave the biggest hugs despite his current condition. It was clear that Monk was not shown love. This was beyond neglect.
His fur was so heavily matted that it was filled with fecal material. His nails were painfully overgrown. Every movement looked uncomfortable. Our first priority was relieving his pain. We knew removing the mats would be extremely painful, so we made the decision to perform a sedated shave. What we found underneath was heartbreaking. Monk wasn't just neglected. He was starving. Every rib was visible. His waist measured only three inches across. He was so severely emaciated that it was hard to believe he was still alive. And yet, through it all, Monk still looked at us with trust.
There was no time to waste. The team at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society got to work right away. They showed Monk's progress in a Facebook post.
What Happened To Monk? Does He Have a New Home in Sioux Falls?
Monk finally got what he always wanted, a loving new family who will take care of him and give him endless hugs!

This is what he and other dogs deserve. This wouldn't be possible without the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. You helped Monk believe there are still good people in this world and even in our own community.
Monk, you are free. Go show the world what others missed out on.
