Two Iowa Cities Crawl Onto the List of Worst Cities For Bed Bugs
This is one list you definitely DON'T want to be on.
If you thought the state of Iowa was immune from these blood-sucking pests, think again.
Orkin released its annual list of the Top 50 Cities For Bed Bugs in the U.S. and not one, but two cities in the Hawkeye State cracked the top 40.
It probably won't come as a surprise that cities like Chicago, New York, and Philadelphia were all inside the top 5, but to have two cities from Iowa making the list is a bit shocking.
According to Orkin, the list comes from data collected of where the company performed the most Bed Bug treatments nationwide.
Coming in at number 31 on the list is none other than the City of Five Seasons, Cedar Rapids. The good news? Well, it's actually down one spot from last year, when it was ranked 30th.
Also cracking the top 50 at number 37 is the largest of the quad cities and the third biggest city in Iowa, Davenport. The city of Davenport made the list last year as well, coming in at number 35. So that's progress, right?
Hotels are definitely the main offender when it comes to bed bugs, but, according to Orkin, there are a number of other places you can find them.
While it’s important to be aware of bed bug infestations within hotels, practicing precautions in other aspects of travel are also important. Taxis, buses and airplanes are also common bed bug hiding places, allowing these pests an opportunity to hitch a ride with unsuspecting travelers. Examining clothing and luggage regularly while traveling can help to catch a bed bug infestation in the early stages
