The Oldest Sioux Falls Restaurant Is Surprising…and Delicious
South Dakota is lucky to have local, homegrown restaurants throughout the state, including in our backyard in Sioux Falls.
Over 700 local eateries call Sioux Falls home. But one Sioux Falls establishment has stood the test of time since the 1950s. I hope you're hungry for a sweet treat, Sioux Falls!

The local gem that has seen Sioux Falls grow for over seven decades is the very first B&G Milkyway on 12th Street.
The old-fashioned drive-in opened in 1954 on West 12th Street in Sioux Falls, originally known as "The Milky Way." In the mid-1960s, the owner sold the establishment to Bertha and Guy Higgins. Since then, ten locations have opened around the Sioux Empire, including the newest ice cream spot in Mitchell.
The iconic B&G Milkyway on 12th Street is considered to be "the oldest standing restaurant in Sioux Falls." Their menu has a variety of treats to choose from, like dipped cones, avalanches, malts, and more! B&G Milkyway also offers food if you're looking to enjoy some dinner before dessert. Foods listed on the menu include: footlongs, chili cheese nachos, and pizza burgers. I'm getting hungry just thinking about the yummy food!
There isn't a place like B&G Milkyway, and Sioux Falls is sharing their wonderful ice cream memories.
I remember getting the tallest ice cream cone at that one when I was a kid. It sometimes didn't fit through the window
This is the one our family of 5 would stop at whenever we made a trip to Sioux Falls to shop downtown. We would eat at the downtown Hamburger Inn for burgers/lunch and on our way home to the Lennox area we stopped for ice cream at this B&G Milkyway
Been going there since 1965 and I'm 65
Been going there since I was a kid! I’m 68 now and I know I haven’t missed a season!! They are the best!
