Well this is the home stretch of summer for kiddos around the Sioux Empire, and parents couldn't be more excited to get them back to the classroom. However, Sioux Falls kids are already counting the days to close the books.

The first day of school for the Sioux Falls School District is on Thursday, August 27th. While students are hard at work, they have plenty of vacation days to look forward too. Teachers need a break too!

Of course, there's your typical holidays like Labor Day and Thanksgiving Break. But there are other breaks to keep in mind during the school year for Sioux Falls students. The Sioux Falls School District does a wonderful job listing all breaks for families and teachers to keep in mind. There's even a day off in the middle of the week.

These Are The Vacation Days for the Sioux Falls School District for the 2026-2027 Year

• Friday, September 4th and Monday, September 7th: Labor Day Break
• Monday, October 12th: Native American Day Observance
• Tuesday, October 13th: No Class for kids. Teachers report for Inservice Day
  • Thursday, October 29th: End of First Quarter
• Wednesday, November 11th: Veteran's Day Observance, No Classes
• Wednesday, November 25th: No Class-Compensatory Day
• Thursday, November 26th to Friday, November 27th: Thanksgiving Break
• Wednesday, December 23rd to Friday, December 31st: Holiday Break
  • Class Resumes on Monday, January 4th
  • Wednesday, January 13th and Thursday, January 14th: High School Semester Tests and Second Quarter Ends
• Friday, January 15th: No Classes for kids. Teacher's report for work day
• Monday, January 18th: Martin Luther King Jr. Day Observance
• Monday, February 15th to Tuesday, February 16th: President's Day Break
• Monday, March 1st: No Class for kids. Teachers report for Inservice Day
  • Tuesday, March 23rd: End of Third Quarter
• Friday, March 26th & Monday, March 29th: Spring Break
• Monday, April 19th: No Class-Compensatory Day
• Wednesday, May 26th: Last Day of School and End of Fourth Quarter

Keep in Mind: High School Graduations will take place on Sunday, May 23rd. For the those high school students still in class, Semester Tests are on Tuesday, May 25th and Wednesday, May 26th.
