Almost Country

Bertie Higgins had a Pop Music smash hit in 1982 that was, well, almost country. Remember 'Key Largo'?

Chances are you know Michael Nesmith as the stocking cap wearing member of the 1960's Pop Music Super Group 'The Monkees'. Michael, Davey, Peter and Mickey sold millions....and I mean millions...of records.  And of course, they had the hit television show that millions more watched every week...

This guy wasn't considered Country, although one of his Pop Classic's was also a huge hit for Country Music Legend Stonewall Jackson!

Bob Dylan's 'Knockin' On Heavens Door' wasn't Country, but it was close.

The Lovin' Spoonful's 'Nashville Cats' wasn't a Country Music hit, but it should have been.

Jesse Winchester isn't a well known Country Music Star, but he's one great singer/songwriter.

The year was 1972 and I was still a young pup going to High School in Edgerton, Minnesota.  While I already loved Merle Haggard and Buck Owens, I was one of those young guys that also loved the Beatles (recently broken up!), the Stones, Three Dog Night and whoever else was around back 'in those days'...
