Story of ‘The Revenant’ Happened Here in South Dakota
When all is lost, you fight!
The story of Hugh Glass. Many of us South Dakota residents first heard the the story of 1823 at a very young age.
I still remember my 6th grade history teacher Jan Lien telling the story as we studied in an old classroom in Kennebec, SD. I remember staring out the window trying to imagine the struggle, trying to imagine what it would be like to be abandoned by fellow travelers. Trying to imagine what it would be like endure a bear attack and then the struggle to survive.
The movie The Revenant, Staring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy is set for a Christmas Day 2015 release and I can't wait to see it.
I would TRY to explain the story, but won't. A co-worker of mine, Jay Murphy and I were talking about the movie. He told me of a South Dakota Artist John Lopez. The work Lopez does is amazing. What's almost as amazing as his artistry is the way he can tell a story. The attention to detail in his work is mirrored by his attention to the actual history of the story of Hugh Glass.
Years ago, my family camped near the Shadehill Recreation Area near Lemmon, South Dakota. If you ever get the change to do the same, you can almost feel the history of the area while you are there.
This is one of the most interesting videos I've ever seen. Please share it with your friends with South Dakota Roots so they can see it before they go to the movie which is due out in January 2016.
Here is the trailer from the movie set to open Christmas Day, 2015.
