Kids and water have always been a magic summer combination. This year it's a bit different thanks to the pandemic. Most area pools remain closed for the season, but that doesn't mean your kids won't be able to make some very splashy memories with their friends and family.

Thanks to our pro-active Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department, our Siouxland Libraries, and Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, once again this year there will be Free Hydrant Parties in neighborhoods around the city.

No registration is required, all you need to do is show up, and be prepared to get wet with cool water sprays from Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and lots of fun games!

The Siouxland Libraries Bookmobile will be on location at many of the Hydrant Parties, so not only can you cool off, you'll be able to choose a book or activity to keep your imagination busy too.

This is the current list of planned Free Neighborhood Hydrant Parties:

  • Thursday, July 2, 1 to 3 PM at Prairie Trail Park
  • Thursday, July 9, 1 to 3 PM at Bakker Park*
  • Thursday, July 16, 1 to 3 PM at Linwood Park*
  • Thursday, July 23, 1 to 3 PM at Hayward Park*
  • Thursday, July 30, 1 to 3 PM at Whittier Park*
  • Thursday, August 6, 1 to 3 PM at Morningside Park
  • Thursday, August 13th, 1 to 3 PM at Jefferson Park

*The Siouxland Libraries Bookmobile will be onsite at these Hydrant Parties.

More locations may be added throughout the summer, so keep checking with Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation's website and Facebook events page for more information. You can also call Siouxland Libraries at 605-367-8700.
