Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota are experiencing brutally cold temperatures. Sad to say, but some people around the Sioux Empire aren't fortunate enough to have shelter to keep them warm.

Thanks to one Sioux Falls Police Officer going above and beyond the call of duty, one homeless person is waking up in a warm room. This Sioux Falls Police officer paid for a room at a hotel to keep an elderly homeless woman out of the cold.

A social media post about Sioux Falls Officer Tanner Vlaminck is going viral after learning he paid out of his own pocket to keep a 75-year-old homeless woman out of the cold weather. One of the front desk managers at the local Sioux Falls hotel knew this act of kindness had to be recognized by the entire community.

Shoutout to an Officer Tanner Vlaminck who works for the SFPD. I work at a hotel and he came in and paid out of his own pocket to get a 75yo homeless woman a room for 3 nights to get her out of this cold. Good cops/people do still exist.

Wow....what an amazing gesture by Officer Tanner Vlaminck. It's not the first time a City of Sioux Falls Police Officer has stepped up to help residents throughout the community. Officials with the Sioux Falls Police Department take pride in officers doing more than just "normal" duties in town.

It's so important to take care of one another when times are tough. Thank you to Officer Tanner Vlaminck for being an example for everyone in Sioux Falls.

In the days before modern weather forecasting, people used any possible bit of information to get a glimpse into the future. Old tales and folklore get handed down for generations as people do whatever they can to survive another winter.

In the 70s, meteorologist Dick Goddard put together a list of common weather folklore for Farmers’ Almanac that some say can predict what nature has in store for the darkest months of the year.

So, take note, do you see any of these signs that winter has it out for us?
