A Sioux Falls man, identified as Boulas Almas, was arrested on simple assault domestic charges Monday in the west part of the city.

"There was an 18-year-old that was having a dispute with a family member," according to Police Captain Loren McManus. "Officers did the investigation. Once they arrived on scene, it was determined an assault had taken place. The 18-year-old was arrested for simple assault domestic."

McManus says domestic violence is much too common in Sioux Falls.

"Domestic violence is one of those crimes that was unreported back in the day for different reasons. But, I think through better education, more and more people are willing to come forward and talk about what's going on the home. We do see quite a few domestic violence cases every single day."

In the United States, an average of 20 people are physically abused by their partners every minute.
