Attorney General Marty Jackley says 52-year-old Joy Ann Sherman died Monday at a Sioux Falls hospital. She was shot by a Mitchall police sergeant after officers were called to a motel and a report of intoxicated woman.

Sherman was armed and was considered to be a danger to herself and others and Jackley said the situation escalated after police arrived resulting in the shooting.
