His name would be among the greatest songwriter's in country music history.

His name would be among the greatest entertainer's in country music history.

His name is among the greatest artist's in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

And in addition to that, Mel Tillis was one of the great storyteller's in country music history. While the great Tom T. Hall will forever be 'The Storyteller', 'ol Mel could spin quite a yarn himself.

I had the pleasure of seeing Mel back in the late 1970's at a dinner theater in Minneapolis and, yes, he sang all his great songs, both the one's he'd written and the one's he brought to the top of the chart's himself. But there was so much more to the show.

The video above is a great example of Mel beginning to tell a fan how he got his famous stutter.

And watch all the way to the end, when another Country Hall of Famer finally comes out and....well, just watch.

By the way, Mel has had some health challenges over the past months and we all want to send our very best wishes to Mel and his family. And thanks for the memories and stories, Mel!
