The word 'Legend' is one of the most over-used words in the English language. It is tossed around like a child's football in describing the latest 'hot star', a star who may shine brightly for months and then burn out.

But if that 'star' shines brightly for decade after decade after decade, that may be the proper description of a legend in whatever field you may be speaking about.

And so it is with sadness we learn of the death of, truly, one of Country Music's all-time greatest legends.

Mel Tillis was 85 years old.

'Stutterin' Mel was not only a Hall of Fame singer and entertainer, he was one of the best songwriter's country music (or music in general) has ever known.

As the USA Today reports, this man was a world class singer, songwriter, comedian and businessman. This was an artist who would absolutely make you laugh-out-loud (literally, a belly-laugh!), then turn around and get you misty-eyed singing one of the most beautiful songs you've ever heard.

And so it is with heavy heart that all of us true country music fans bid farewell to another of our legends. But it is also with a warm smile that we remember what Mel Tillis meant to us for all those decades.

A great artist? Yes. A true Gentleman? Yes. A Legend? Yes, without a doubt.
