Brookings Kidnap Victim Set Free in Sioux Falls
The Bookings County Sheriff's Department says a 17-year-old rural Brookings resident was kidnapped in an incident that also involved a car chase.
Shortly after 1:30 AM Tuesday morning (December 13) the Sheriff's Department was notified of a kidnapping at a rural Brookings residence.
Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says just prior to the kidnapping the suspect and victim were involved in a car chase, where the victim was forced off the road and a shot was fired at the vehicle. The 17-year-old male victim was then pistol whipped and taken by force. A passenger was left behind, a 23-year-old male from Minneapolis.
The victim was later released at a central Sioux Falls gas station, assisted by the Sioux Falls Police Department and released into his parents' custody.
According to KJJQ Radio, the suspect has been identified and warrants have been issued for his arrest for kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, and commission of a felony while armed. Sebring says he is being sought by Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County law enforcement.
Sebring says there is some speculation on a possible motive but he cannot comment further.
