Airline travel is a pain, but it is a necessary pain. As we've recently learned when something goes wrong with technology, it affects everything including airlines. So when CrowdStrike had its meltdown a few weeks ago it grounded thousands of flights for airlines worldwide. Now one popular Minnesota airline is being taken to court in a class-action lawsuit over the chaos surrounding the grounded flights.

Delta saw a class action lawsuit filed against it in Georgia. According to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal:

The class-action lawsuit, filed by law firms Webb, Klase & Lemond, and Sauder Schelkopf on behalf of the plaintiffs in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia in Atlanta, alleges that Delta "refused or ignored" requests for flight refunds. It also claims that the Atlanta-based carrier did not abide by its commitment to provide affected passengers with meal, hotel, and ground transportation vouchers.

The lawsuit is seeking refunds for passengers affected by the grounded flights, some of which could cost Delta tens of thousands of dollars.

The Business Journal also reported that "Delta breached contracts, violated state laws, and did not comply with U.S. Department of Transportation regulations, which require airlines to provide automatic refunds in the event of flight cancellations and significant delays. Among other claims, it alleges that Delta did not appropriately inform consumers of their right to a refund before offering alternative transportation, travel credits, vouchers, and other forms of compensation."

The lawsuit comes at a time when the Department of Transportation is looking at how the airline handled the disruption, and how customers were treated during the flight disruption.

Delta's CEO has said previously that the outage cost the airline more than 500 million dollars.
