Anyone who lives in the 'Land of Ten Thousand Lakes' will tell you, it's one of the most unique and diverse states in the entire U.S. However, even some lifelong Minnesotans might be surprised at the state's most unusual region.

When outsiders think of Minnesota, they likely imagine pristine lakes and rolling fields of corn. And while that's certainly true, there's also some distinct outliers that will surprise anyone who doesn't live in the area.

In a recent video, YouTuber, That is Interesting listed the 'Most Unusual Region in Each State'. I was curious as to what the choice for Minnesota would be but it shouldn't be a surprise.

Driving into the Iron Range feels like entering an entirely different country, much less a different state. It stands out due to its deep heritage of iron ore mining, mainly Vermillion and Mesabi.

The Iron Range is a sharp visual contrast from what you'll find in Southern Minnesota, which is dominated by farmland. There you'll find vast open pits, forests, and some of the biggest lakes in the entire state.

It's also home to one of the most iconic landmarks that no one has heard of, the Hill of Three Waters. This is a rare geographical area near Hibbing where the water from it flows into three different drainage basins, the Hudson Bay, Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean.
