As the first week of 2020 comes to an end, it's time to take stock of those resolutions you made not too long ago about how things were going to be different in your life in the new year.

For most people, those resolutions have to do with health and fitness, whether its a change in eating habits, working in more exercise in your daily routine, or even quitting smoking once and for all.

So how successful have you been in making those resolutions stick after seven days?

According to, so far so good, but not for very much longer.

They looked at a 1988 study out of the University of Scranton that found a whopping 77 percent of people who committed to a New Year's resolution stuck to it for a week, but by the end of two years that number was down to less than one-in-five (19 percent).

And that was more than 30 years ago. The current numbers are even more discouraging.

According to a survey by Statista, only four percent of people who made New Year's resolutions in 2018 said they kept them.

So when do things start to go off the rails?

Data from the athletic social networking site Strava shows that that the second Friday in January (which is January 10 this year) is the most common day when a lot of us throw in the towel on those big changes we promised ourselves for the new year.
