Gregg Allman’s New Album to Be Posthumously Released
Though Gregg Allman is gone, his music lives on forever, and now fans have the special opportunity to hear new music from the late star.
Allman's final album, Southern Blood, will be released on Sept. 8 via Rounder Records. It was recorded at Muscle Shoals' FAME studios and produced by Don Was, who has worked with Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, Carly Simon, Elton John and several other legendary singers, in addition to Allman.
The Southern rocker died in May of 2017 at the age of 69 after a battle with liver cancer. Southern Blood will feature 10 songs, plus two live versions of "I Love the Life I Live" and "Love Like Kerosene."

It's mostly dominated by cover songs of Dylan, the Grateful Dead and more, with each one holding special meaning for Allman. The album's first track, "My Only True Friend," is the only new original on the album.
"Gregg was thrilled that the sound in his head was manifesting itself on the tape," producer Was says in a press release. "He didn't have all the lungpower of his younger self, but we felt that these raw, weathered performances were honest and compelling.”
Since his death, several country music artists have expressed their admiration for Allman and his legacy. “He was such an inspiration to so many of us that tried so hard to imitate him but could just never quite do it the same. Thanks for the music and thanks for making me believe I could achieve my music dreams too," Jason Aldean writes in a Facebook post. He, Darius Rucker and Charles Kelley all took the stage at the 2017 CMT Awards to open the show with a tribute to Allman, performing the signature tune “Midnight Rider."
