Blake Shelton Debuts ‘I’ll Name the Dogs’ at the 2017 CCMAs [WATCH]
Blake Shelton released his brand-new single, "I'll Name the Dogs," on Friday (Sept. 8), and on Sunday night (Sept. 10), the country star officially debuted the track during the 2017 Canadian Country Music Association Awards ceremony. Readers can press play above to watch a snippet of his performance.
"I'll Name the Dogs" is the first glimpse of new music from Shelton since his 2016 album If I'm Honest. Sonically, the song is straightforward, mid-tempo country; in this love song, "You name the babies, and I'll name the dogs" is the narrator's way of telling his love that he's ready to settle down.
"“I’ll Name the Dogs" is a bit of a throwback song for me,” Shelton says in a press release. “It’s traditional country with fiddle and steel, and I’ve got Jimmy Olander from Diamond Rio playing the guitar solo. It brings the sound back a little more traditional for a minute, which I felt like needed to happen musically for me.”
Shelton will be back in his judge's chair for the 13th season of The Voice later in September. On Sept. 12, he's also co-hosting the Nashville portion of the Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief concert.
The 2017 CCMA Awards featured Lindsay Ell, the James Barker Band, High Valley and more among the nominees, as well as Dallas Smith, Lindi Ortega and Brett Kissel. The ceremony took place at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.
