South Dakota’s Most Underrated Town is in Sioux Falls’ Own Backyard
Where is South Dakota's most underrated town? Well, if you live in the Sioux Falls metro, you won't have to drive far to get there.
Cheapism recently compiled its list of the 'Most Underrated' town in each of the fifty U.S. states. The common thread for most of them? Affordability, safety, and a great place for education.
So, which South Dakota town made the list? Once you see it, you probably won't be surprised, as it's a place everyone's been buzzing about.
According to Cheapism, the town of Harrisburg takes the crown as South Dakota's most underrated community. It's hard to argue, Harrisburg has been thriving in recent years and is expected to continue to grow in the near future.
Here's what Cheapism had to say about Harrisburg:
Home to 5,700 people, Harrisburg is a stone's throw from the largest city in South Dakota — but it's steeped in small-town amenities. The schools are excellent at all levels, so you'll feel comfortable dropping the kids off there if you commute into Sioux Falls for work. That commute will be even breezier thanks to a reconstructed highway connecting the big city directly to Harrisburg.

The town of Harrisburg was founded back in 1879 and it remained a quiet suburb of Sioux Falls for well over a century. But in the last twenty years its population and economic development have skyrocketed, making it one of the most appealing communities in the entire state to live and raise a family.
