Sioux Falls and Rapid City are two of the fastest-growing cities in the country. However, if you ask many of the locals, they're growing at too fast a rate. This does signify a healthy economy in each of the cities, respectfully. But, for some, living in a midsized town is much more agreeable.

With that in mind, Only in Your State South Dakota recently pinpointed the most perfectly-sized town in the entire state. It's not too big and not too small. And it's pretty darn close to one of the state's biggest cities.

According to Only in Your State, the most perfectly-sized town in South Dakota is the Sioux Falls suburb of Harrisburg.

Just under 10 miles from Sioux Falls, the city of Harrisburg has been experiencing an impressive growth spurt, with the population increasing 40 percent between April 1, 2020 and July 1, 2023. The U.S. Census Bureau found that 9,435 people lived in Harrisburg in 2023, up from 6,738 in 2020, earning it distinction as the fastest-growing city in South Dakota. One visit to Harrisburg illustrates why it attracts so many new residents, especially those who love the outdoors.
