South Dakota’s #1 Choice For Hot Sauce is Kind of Embarrassing
Some like it hot, but apparently not South Dakota.
Instacart recently crunched the numbers and South Dakotans eat the least amount of hot sauce in the entire U.S. One surprising fact is that our neighbor to the north (North Dakota) buys the most hot sauce per capita in the country.
Another interesting find from the Instacart survey is exactly which hot sauce each state is buying the most. And as far as hot sauces go, South Dakota's is pretty tame.
What's South Dakota's Favorite Hot Sauce?
That's right, Heinz... While the survey doesn't specify which brand of Heinz South Dakotans enjoy the most, it's a sad choice. Especially since we're the only state in the U.S. with Heinz as our number-one hot sauce, take a look at what the other states chose in the map below.
Each of the states that surround South Dakota chose worthy hot sauces. Iowans love Huy Fong Siracha, while Minnesotans can't get enough of Cholula. Nebraskans crave Trappey's above all others, and the top choice in North Dakota goes to Mexican Village Restaurant.
