The ‘Best Of The West’ Is In South Dakota
True West Magazine has confirmed what those of us in South Dakota have known for years.
Deadwood is the top true western town in the United States. In fact, the magazine has made if official, naming the Black Hills town 'Top True Western Town'!
I've been to Deadwood several times over the years. In fact, the day Deadwood officially welcomed back gambling in 1989, I was working on-the-air in Rapid City and my radio partner Tom Collins and I broadcast live from the balcony of the legendary Franklin Hotel.
So when I saw on the KOTA TV website that True West Magazine made if official, i wasn't surprised. On sure, most folks know about Wild Bill and Calamity Jane, but there is so much more history to explore in Deadwood. It really doesn't matter if you're a 'gamer' or not, you'll love spending a day or two or three in Deadwood, then take the time to explore the Black Hills.
By the way, True West Magazine went on to also name Deadwood 'Best Place To Live Like A Cowboy' and 'Best Architecturally Preserved Western Town'. And if that wasn't enough, Saloon No. 10 on Main was named 'Best Historic Saloon of the West'.
So saddle up and make a trip to the Best of the West right here in South Dakota!
