Look at the number of students who are enrolled in the Sioux Falls School District and you can understand why there will be two new schools in the near future. Ben Reifel Middle School and Thomas Jefferson High School are now under construction.

As KSFY TV reports, the district has grown in the number of students, but it also has become more diversified. Seeing an increase in the Hispanic student population. DeeAnn Konrad is the Sioux Falls School District community relations and community education department, supervisor.

Konrad says the Hispanic population has grown from 11.4% last year to 12.6% in 2019. More than 91 different languages can be heard inside the homes of students in the district.

In the report, KSFY TV talked with Dr. Brian Maher, Sioux Falls School District superintendent who said, "Our middle schools are more diverse than our high schools, and our elementary schools are more diverse than our middle schools."

So how big is the Sioux Falls School District? Enrollment now stands at 24,000 students.
