Over the years, the Sioux Falls Marathon has evolved to the point where it is now considered an attractive event for runners attempting to qualify for the Boston Marathon. Now the folks who run the event are looking to bolster the local running scene.

The Sioux Falls Sports Authority has added an elite runner program to the 2015 Sioux Falls Marathon. Participants of the elite runner program who meet all of the qualifications may receive complementary registration and pre-race pasta dinner. To qualify, runners must be a Sioux Falls resident and meet the elite runner times. Runners will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

In a press release, Wes Hall, Executive Director of the Sioux Falls Sports Authority, said:

Everything is new this year.

We want to grow the Sioux Falls Marathon race series and adding a local elite runner program is just one of the many additions in 2015.

We want to highlight the elite runners in the Sioux Falls community and provide them with the recognition they deserve.

The Sioux Falls Sports Authority will accept applications until August 24. The Sioux Falls Marathon Elite Athlete Application may be found on the Sioux Falls Marathon website.

This year's event is Sunday, September 13, 2015. Registration for the 2016 Boston Marathon opens the next day.
