There are five seasons in South Dakota. Of course, you have your typical Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer seasons. But one season that seems to happen all year-round is...construction season!

Orange cones and hard hats seem to be everywhere across the Sioux Empire, including on the beloved Sioux Falls Recreation Trail.

READ MORE: Serious Question: Is It Legal To Publicly Urinate in Sioux Falls?

The City of Sioux Falls has been hard at work updating roads and pathways on the bike trails. But something troubling has caught the attention of staff with the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department. Apparently, some rude residents on the bike trails are "yelling at construction workers, tearing down construction fences, throwing important signage into the river, and riding their bikes through freshly poured concrete." Wow...this shocking news was shared in a Facebook post.

Staff at the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department have been receiving disturbing messages about "poor behavior" on the trails. Here's the main message: Stop harassing and giving the construction workers trouble. They help keep our trails in tip-top shape.

We’d like to remind you that not every City has the privilege of a well-managed 36-mile paved multi-use recreation trail. Not every City has the privilege of being CAPRA Accredited and in the top 1% of United States local parks and trail systems. Not every city has the privilege of having a high-quality parks system like we do in Sioux Falls.
This means we need time and space to do the work. We have to ensure trail users have a safe and smooth surface that meets our high standards. It’s our job.
Please use this as a reminder that we SHARE the trail.
It’s not just for bikers.
It’s not just for walkers.
It’s not just for Canada Geese crossings, it’s for all of us. Including construction crews

Give construction workers a break. As someone who uses the bike trails often, I get how frustrating it can be to have a path closed during construction season. But this maintenance work is important. It keeps bikers, runners, walkers...everyone safe.

Share the trail and be patient! Thank you to all construction workers!
