S.D. Raw Milk Producers Upset About 2nd Rules Hearing

(AP) - Western South Dakota farmers who produce raw milk are unhappy about having to make a second trip to Pierre to comment on revised rules governing the sale of unpasteurized milk.
 
     The Rapid City Journal reports the second hearing is being held July 26th because state Agriculture Secretary Lucas Lentsch decided to change the proposed rules after hearing from hundreds of people at the department's first hearing last month. The major change is that the revised safety regulations would apply only to raw milk for sale, not milk that is offered or provided for free.
 
     Raw milk sellers want to testify by the state's two-way television system next week so they don't have to travel to Pierre. A state official says the Agriculture Department will see if that's possible.
