Report: More Senior Services Needed in Rapid City

RAPID CITY - A new survey of local residents is calling into question whether Rapid City is friendly to senior citizens.

The Rapid City Journal reports that the assessment, prepared by the University of South Dakota Government Research Bureau, says Rapid City is deficient in providing basic services for senior citizens. Those services include suitable housing, transportation and nursing home beds.

Overall, about half of the survey's community standards were deemed below expectations.

The city council voted to accept the report during a recent meeting.

Sandy Diegel is the executive director of the John T. Vucurevich Foundation. She says the report outlines the things that need attention in the senior citizen community. She acknowledged the council can't address all of the concerns on its own and urged other entities to help.
