Sioux Falls Police arrested a woman following an assault in Western Sioux Falls on Wednesday.

"A man has a couple of kids with a former girlfriend and a couple of kids with a current girlfriend," according to Police Spokesman Sam Clemens.

"The kids reportedly did something. The current girlfriend disciplined all four kids. This caused an argument between the two women."

When the two women met face to face following a phone call, Clemens says violence erupted!

"The couple went to drop off the other kids. The former girlfriend grabbed a knife and swung it at the current girlfriend. It ended up cutting her thumb."

Clemens says the alleged incident is not good parenting.

"People have a disagreement over discipline and the best way to handle that. But, grabbing a knife and trying to swing it at somebody isn't the way to solve the situation."

Clemens says 31-year-old Melissa Ann Brudelied of Sioux Falls was charged with aggravated assault.
