Strong wind appears to have caused a weekend semi accident that left nearly 150 sheep dead in Grundy County.

The accident happened Sunday around 6:30 AM on County Road T-19 (F. Ave) about seven miles north of Wellsburg.

Sheriff's officials said a strong westerly wind caused the driver of the northbound rig to veer to right, drop off the narrow shoulder and roll into a ditch. The semi was pulling a trailer hauling sheep.

According to sheriff's officials, 150 head of sheep had to be destroyed. The accident caused approximately $30,000 damage.

Authorities identified the driver as 19-year-old Peter Wiechmann of Hubbard. Wiechmann escaped the accident uninjured.
