The year was 1974.  The biggest name in country music songwriting was the future Hall of Famer Kris Kristofferson ("Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", "Help Me Make It Through The Night", "For The Good Times").

Well, a member of Kris' band had a huge hit of his own, both on the country charts and pop charts.
