STURGIS, S.D. (AP) — A bullhead battle is brewing under Bear Butte Lake in western South Dakota.

But the catfish relatives have overwhelmed the fishery in recent years, and the state Game, Fish and Parks Department has stocked bullhead predators such as largemouth bass and northern pike to try to reduce bullhead numbers.

Officials also have netted and removed thousands of bullheads. But Game, Fish and Parks Fisheries Manager Gene Galinat tells the Rapid City Journal (http://bit.ly/1ptGeX0 ) that the agency still can't get a handle on the population.

Galinat says the agency isn't giving up.
