ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol is trying to recruit more women but no one showed up at a seminar this week.

A spokesman tells the Aberdeen American News reports that there are only six female troopers in the state, compared with 168 men.

Trooper Cortney Paul was on hand at the Highway Patrol office in Aberdeen for the first recruitment seminar. She says short notice and lack of publicity were probably why no one showed up.

Paul says another seminar may be slated later in Aberdeen.
