There have been reports from towns all over South Dakota of people having packages stolen from their front steps. This kind of activity increases greatly around the holiday season.

Recently the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in Canton, SD took a report of a stolen package from a residence in the 400 block of Pittsburgh Ave. in Harrisburg. The victim said the package was dropped off by the UPS.

The Lincoln Country Sheriff's Office reminds us to please look out for our neighbors and report suspicious activity. They also posted these following tips to help us avoid being a victim of a Porch Pirate:

  • Track your packages
  • Be available for delivery
  • Require a signature
  • Choose in-store pick-up
  • If possible, send the package to a work address
