PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A Republican state lawmaker is concerned that a state commission studying education isn't taking into account the concerns of legislators outside of the group.

Representative Elizabeth May tells KCCR-AM she's disappointed because she thought the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Teachers and Students would be open to input.

An email sent out for the task force last week told lawmakers that they are invited to community meetings to listen but said that legislators shouldn't offer input. The group is visiting communities across the state.

Group co-chair Representative Jacqueline Sly says the public meetings are just the first part of the process and that lawmakers will have opportunities to weigh in later.

The task force will study issues including the state's education funding formula and make recommendations to the 2016 Legislature.
