Kelsea Ballerini to Join Cyndi Lauper for New ‘Skyville Live’ Episode
Kelsea Ballerini is set to join Cyndi Lauper live in concert during an upcoming installment of Skyville Live.
The rising country star will join the '80s pop icon for an episode that's been dubbed "Girls Just Wanna Have Friends" (a play on Lauper's classic hit "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"). The show will also feature Ingrid Michaelson.
"I love music, and I've always tried to be super open about listening to everything and loving everything," Ballerini tells The Boot. "So to be a country artist honoring Cyndi Lauper, who is a huge icon in pop, is really cool."
Lauper is planning to release a new album, which just so happens to be a country project, later this year. The record, titled Detour, will feature an appearance from Willie Nelson and was executive produced by Seymour Stein. Additionally, Lauper worked with Nashville icon Tony Brown on the disc.
"I heard someone say that sometimes your childhood defines the music or the things you think in your life," Lauper tells Rolling Stone Country. "My childhood was a mixture of things, but if you went by Aunt Gracie's kitchen, she was playing the country music station. I think it's a little bit of that in there, and that's what reminds me of her."
An official release date for Detour has not yet been announced. The "Girls Just Wanna Have Friends" episode of Skyville Live is scheduled to air on Jan. 28 at 8PM ET via the free mobile platform go90. More information is available on the show's official website.
