Good things come to those who wait, and one Sioux Falls dog at a South Dakota animal shelter finally gets his reward for being patient: A new home.

Kayden was the longest resident at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. He waited 260 days for someone to choose him. At long last, someone is giving Kayden a second chance.

Kayden spent almost a full year at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society getting passed by and overlooked. Despite his "nervous energy," Kayden's spirit wouldn't give up.

Officials at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society say that Kayden put in the hard work to be the dog he is today. His story in a Facebook post is an inspiration for all of us.

With help from my foster friends and the Paroled Pups program, I started figuring it out. Turning my nervous energy into something better.

I studied hard and passed my Canine Good Citizen test.
I learned how to greet politely, sit for attention, walk nicely on a leash, listen to my commands, stay calm around other dogs, and focus even when the world felt busy.

What makes me special was never perfection.

It was effort.

Never stop fighting for yourself. Always keep going. These are some of the lessons Kayden has taught many around the Sioux Empire.

Couldn't LOVE this more!!!!! So So HAPPY for Kayden to have a Forever Home!! He can do all kinds of special things and make his owner PROUD and be loved and snuggled as he So DESERVES.

Congratulations to Kayden and his new human! What a great story of hope.

It takes a lot of courage to work on yourself, and that alone makes Kayden one of the bravest dogs you'll ever meet.

Congratulations to you and your new family, sweet boy! You make the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society and the Sioux Empire so proud!

Gone But Not Forgotten - Iconic Sioux Falls: Whiffer's Sandwiches

The Merriam-Webster definition of iconic is "widely recognized and well-established." That would definitely describe Whiffer's Sandwiches which used to call North Minnesota Avenue home.

The gone but not forgotten sandwich shop was located in an old house at 1133 North Minnesota Avenue. It served sandwiches to Sioux Falls from November 1978 until the summer of 2020.
