Story Behind the Song: Jordan Rager, ‘One of the Good Ones’
In late March, Jordan Rager dropped a brand-new song, "One of the Good Ones," which finds the singer reflecting on how some of the things he used to have -- a first car, a dependable dog -- were "one of the good ones;" of course, the second verse focuses on the girl that got away.
Written by Ross Ellis, Chris Stevens and James McNair, Rager first heard "One of the Good Ones" on a drive to see a country icon, and he was instantly drawn to the track. Below, the up-and-comer tells The Boot about his favorite lyric in the song and more.
I first heard the song while driving to an Alan Jackson concert in Georgia. One of the writers, Ross Ellis, is a buddy, and I’m a big fan of his music, so I sometimes make him send me all his new stuff. I think the song was a few months old when I first heard it.
It was love at first listen; in fact, I listened to it three or four times in a row. It grabbed me and wouldn’t let me go. I’ve never had a song do that to me, so I knew it was something I had to have. Growing up an Atlanta Braves fan the “Chipper Jones home run” line was definitely an attention-grabber, and probably my favorite lyric in the song, but I can relate to just about every other lyric in the song, too.
The energy of the demo was the first thing that drew me to it, so I definitely didn’t want to lose that. The foundation was there, we just had to fill in the blanks to take the song to the next level. I couldn’t be more proud of how it turned out.
