Mega Millions Tickets in Iowa Will More than Double in Price
Iowa lottery officials are betting that you won't mind paying more for a Mega Millions ticket.
According to CBS2 the cost of a Mega Millions ticket is about to go up. How much? How about more than double? Lottery officials announced this week that it will cost $5 to play Mega Millions starting in April of 2025, up from the current $2 per ticket. Mega Millions along with Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, including Iowa. CBS2 reports that the price increase is just one of many changes to the Mega Millions game.
Mega Millions hopes that by increasing prices and reconfiguring the odds of winning, which currently stand at a whopping 1 in 302.6 million, more people will win jackpots even as the the prizes grow increasingly higher according to CBS2. Lottery officials say that the goal is to increase revenues and provide more money to state lotteries that use that money for a variety of government purposes.
More than doubling the price of a ticket will no doubt turn some players off, but research shows that people spend at least $5 when purchasing scratch tickets or games like Mega Millions and Powerball according to CBS2. Speaking of Powerball, officials with that game say they have no plans to change the current ticket price of $2 or the game's current odds of winning.
So are you willing to spend a little more money for better odds and bigger jackpots? Something tells me America's answer will be 'yes'.
