Pink Flamingos at a South Dakota Campsites May Have a Very Kinky Meaning
Pink flamingos at campsites are not unusual. Walking through Newton Hills State Park one camp spot seemed to go a bit overboard with an entire flock of pink flamingoes surrounding the camper. Cool, right?
Pink flamingos are whimsical lawn ornaments placed there by campers to create a festive or amusing atmosphere. People often use these decorations as a way to personalize their camping area or to bring a lighthearted ambiance to the site.
These fun pink flamingo decorations have become somewhat of a cultural icon, and their use as campsite decorations is part of a long-standing tradition for some campers.
But...what if these quirky, pink, long-legged beauties have a deeper - or even a kinky - meaning?
TikTok users are posting videos in which flamingos are used at campsites to indicate that "Swingers Live Here." Say WHAT?! Keep in mind that we should probably take this with a cautionary grain of salt because...well...TikTok isn't the most reliable source of news and trends, right?
But then a globetrotting traveler and blogger named Nanci Dixon has also heard of this in campgrounds across America. When asking local campers about putting pink flamingos by their camper, they simply replied, "Oh...we don't do that."
Then, the Miami Herald and the New York Post both wrote articles about the swinging flamingo phenomena.
A new symbol has come to light in place of the majestic flamingo. Setting a pineapple by your campsite can also mean the camper may identify as a swinger. Although the pineapple is mostly commonly used on cruise ships, it's becoming a symbol for swinging at campsites, too.
So, if you see pink flamingos at a campsite, it's most likely a fun and creative expression of the campers rather than a Hey y'all wanna come in the Winnebago for a little hot flamingo schwingin' fun? But one never knows. Perhaps the flamingo isn't as innocent a bird as it appears.
