Less than two weeks ago, Joann Fabrics and Crafts announced that Chapter 11 bankruptcy was forcing them to shutter about 500 of their 850 stores around the country, including nearly in the Tri-State area.

Now that situation has gone from bad to absolute worst as the company confirmed this week that it will now close all of its locations nationwide.

Locally, Minnesota was initially going to lose these 12 stores:

  • Apple Valley
  • Bemidji
  • Coon Rapids
  • Elk River
  • Faribault
  • Hibbing
  • Hutchinson
  • Mankato
  • Maple Grove
  • Shakopee
  • Willmar
  • Woodbury

Now, another nine stores will close in the North Star State:

  • Alexandria
  • Brainerd
  • Duluth
  • Edina
  • Maplewood
  • Minnetonka
  • Rochester
  • Roseville
  • St. Cloud

Six Iowa stores were on the original closing list:

  • Ames
  • Ankeny
  • Council Bluffs
  • Iowa City
  • Muscatine
  • Mason City

Now, another five stores will close in the Hawkeye State

  • Cedar Rapids
  • Clive
  • Davenport
  • Dubuque
  • Waterloo

Originally, One South Dakota store was scheduled for closing:

  • Brookings

Now, another two stores will close in the Mount Rushmore State:

In January, the Hudson, Ohio-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time and announced that it would close about 500 out of 850 existing stores.

Joann first filed for bankruptcy in March 2024 after securing $132 million in new financing to put towards its $1 billion debt.
