
Winter Storm Warning For South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for most of Southeast South Dakota, Southwest Minnesota, and Northwestern Iowa.
The Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 9 pm, bringing significant snowfall and hazardous travel conditions to the region.
The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls says, “The winter storm today will move in fast this morning, with moderate to heavy snow in many areas for a few hours late morning and early evening. It will exit to the east this evening and tonight.
The Winter Storm Warning was expanded, with 6 additional counties added before 9 AM. It now includes Sioux Falls, Pipestone, and Cherokee.
Please avoid travel across the area today, and delay any outdoor plans until this evening or Sunday.
What to Expect
Heavy snow is expected throughout the day, with total accumulations between 5 and 7 inches.
The National Weather Service warns that visibility may drop below a quarter mile due to falling and blowing snow, creating dangerous driving conditions.
Safety Recommendations
Road conditions are expected to be extremely slippery throughout the day. If travel is necessary, reduce speed, increase following distance, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle including blankets, flashlight, water, and snacks.
Residents should avoid unnecessary travel if possible and stay informed about changing conditions through local weather updates. Those who must venture out should inform others of their travel plans and expected arrival times.
