Sioux Falls Lions At Great Plains Zoo Celebrate One Year Together
Time flies when you're having fun, and the Sioux Falls Great Plains Zoo has been so lively since the return of their big cats, Simba and Amahle.
Coming from Detroit Zoo and Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, these beautiful lions have called Sioux Falls home for almost two years. But they have only been together in the same enclosure for a year.

Staff at the Great Plains Zoo recently celebrated this major milestone and shared the big party on their Facebook and Instagram pages. Simba and Amahle enjoyed some treats and more time spent together in the sun. It's like the perfect date!
This may not seem like a big deal from an outsider's perspective, but Sioux Falls caretakers at the Great Plains Zoo know that big cat introductions can be a long process that requires a lot of patience and effort. All that preparation and work paid off. Simba's and Amahle's relationship is stronger than ever.
Their blossoming relationship has come a long way. The staff at the Great Plains Zoo is still in awe of their progress over the last year.
Since then, they’ve gone from keeping their distance to cuddling under their favorite tree and even sharing the occasional nuzzle!
Sounds like Simba and Amahle were meant for each other!
What a victory for the staff and caretakers of the Great Plains Zoo! We've had the pleasure of watching their bond grow stronger. It's truly amazing.
Officials at the Great Plains Zoo are grateful for the support from their Sioux Empire visitors. We love seeing Simba's and Amahle's connection grow!
