Satanic Display inside Iowa State Capitol Building Sparks Controversy

'Tis the holiday season, but, not every holiday display is deemed appropriate, and that's the message Iowa's governor is attempting to convey right now.

There is a highly controversial holiday display set up inside the Iowa Statehouse in Des Moines at the moment, and it's caught the attention of Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

Dakota News Now is reporting that Reynolds is speaking out against a satanic display that depicts a ram’s head covered with mirrors on a mannequin that was set up on the first floor of the Iowa State Capitol building by members of the Satanic Temple of Iowa.

In the Dakota News Now article, the co-founder of the Satanic Temple, Lucien Greaves says the display is a symbol of their right to religious freedom.

According to Dakota News Now, Governor Reynolds finds the display objectionable and released the following statement to the public on Tuesday, (December 12)...

"Like many Iowans, I find the Satanic Temple’s display in the Capitol absolutely objectionable. In a free society, the best response to objectionable speech is more speech, and I encourage all those of faith to join me today in praying over the Capitol and recognizing the nativity scene that will be on display, the true reason for the season.”

Members of the Satanic Temple did receive permission to set up a small altar in the capitol building and claim the freedoms provided to them under the law offer the "freedom to offend."

Greaves made the following statement in an article that can be found in USA Today, he says, "Ignore the display if it offends you."
